One of the most eagerly awaited events at Cannes last year was the unveiling of Pathé’s newly restored version of Marcel Carné’s Children of Paradise (1946), arguably the most beloved masterwork of French cinema. Set in the Parisian theatrical world of the 1840’s, Children tells the ineffably witty tale of a women loved by four different man. Boasting the largest set ever constructed for a French film, plus a sparkling script from acclaimed poet and screenwriter Jacques Prévert, Carné moves the action effortlessly between stage and audience, teeming streets and intimidate boudoirs, bringing the world of these characters to pulsing, vibrant life. The film stars Arlettym Jean-Louis Berrault, Pierre Brasseur and Pierre Renoir.
